Plan of Assessment
Assessment of student learning will provide evidence as to whether intercultural development is occurring/has occurred among participants. The assessment plan for this QEP includes direct and indirect measures linked to each of the following student learning outcomes:
- Self/Cultural Awareness
- Knowledge
- Attitudes
- Skills
Methods of Assessment
Direct measures
- Embedded Assignments (artifacts that allow students to demonstrate their knowledge, skills, and attitudes related to intercultural competence) submitted for COAD 1000 courses, courses with IC designation, and high impact experiences and paired with a reflection by the student
- Developmental Orientation result from the Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI)
Indirect Measures
- Perceived Orientation result from the Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI)
- Survey and focus groups administered to both faculty/staff participating in QEP initiatives and students enrolled in courses that use embedded assignments
- Exit survey for students who complete the proposed Certificate Pathways

Quantitative Instruments
- The Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI) is a fifty-item questionnaire that can be used to measure participants’ level of intercultural competence.
- Student surveys, administered to students completing Certificate Pathways and to students enrolled in IC and COAD 1000 courses, as well as to students participating in HIP experiences.
- Faculty/staff surveys, administered to participating in QEP initiatives and/or teaching IC-designated and COAD 1000 courses, as well as faculty/staff leading HIP experiences.
